Last thursday I getting ready to get some shut eye around midnight when my E71 went *beep beep* as I got a txt message from Marco with the news that MJ was taken to the hospital after having a cardiac arrest. So instead of sleeping I went online and did the most logical thing, google MJ and ofcourse visit the news websites (CNN, Times, NBC, Nu.nl etc). There I read the news that he was indeed taken to a hospital after having a cardiac arrest. To quote Andrew Ho (a good friend of mine and part of the TSF family):
Hope fot the best, prepare for the worst!!!
And it became the worst when I got woken up by a txt message from my sweetheart Ana around 5:15AM saying that MJ passed away. First thing I thought was damn … this sucks and tried to get some sleep for another 1 hour and 15 minutes before waking up to get ready for work. Which btw didn’t work. O_o Anyway, after getting up and slowly getting ready and having breakfast I ofcourse watched the morning news to see if anything new was being said about MJ while also surfing newssites for more info. Oh before I forget, everyone THANKS for thinking of me and texting me during Friday. 🙂 I really appreciate it.
It’s Monday now and a few days that MJ passed away. I’m listening a lot of his music all the way back to The Jackson 5 days till the last album I actually really listened too which is HIStory. I know he had a few more albums after that but I don’t really have any memorable songs on those that I can connect to my past or any events in my life. Yeah I know I sound like an old fart but hey, I am getting old 😛 😉 Anyway, his musical legacy is amazing and the songs are really timeless. It really feels like a part of my childhood passed away, yes I know it sounds dramatic but I grew up with MJ’s music. He had and continues to have such an influence on music and with a lot of his earlier work he raised the bar for other musicians and artists.
I am left with a feeling of regret and sadness. Regret & sadness that I never got to see a show of him like my cousin Marco did when we were younger. Eventhough we’re gonna still go to London since the planetickets and hostel are already booked the main reason for me isn’t there anymore. That doesn’t mean I’m not gonna enjoy a midweek in London but it’s still different. Anyway the King of Pop has left this world and leaves behind a musical legacy for the world and future generations to enjoy. I know I will enjoy his music and specially the classics even more …
