This is my personal homepage. You’ll probably be wondering why I designed this homepage and better yet, why did I buy this domain name? Well this story will help answer these questions. It started in the second week of March in 2003 I believe. I was looking around on internet and decided to check if the domain name chen.nl was still free.
Yeah, I know what you’re thinking.
“Is he nuts???”
But anyway, when I checked http://www.chen.nl I was surprised to see that it was for sale. So I started to make some inquiries about the price of chen.nl and found out that it would cost me about € 300, – to buy chen.nl. After some consideration I decided to buy chen.nl and that’s the whole story.
It took about 3 weeks to complete the deal and it took about 2 days to move the domain name to vdx hosting. The reason why did I want to design this homepage has something to do with the fact that I wanted to make an on-line portfolio where I can put my resume and other stuff.
Since the official launch on 24 April 2003 there hasn’t been a change in the style of the site. It still uses the same gray en white colors that it started with. I’ve been changing the lay-out en sections but as you can see on the right side I haven’t been that busy with de design of chen.nl. Hopefully that will change starting 2005.
Update 2008-07-28
Well, I changed from hard coding everything myself to using WordPress since 2006. At one point I also decided that I wanted to keep my personal blog, pictures, etc. separate from chen.nl. In 2007 I knew I was going to China for at least one semester to study Mandarin at Tsinghua University so I decided to buy guychen.nl and host my blog and everything related to that at guychen.nl. As you can see I’ve been kind of keeping this website up to date with my adventures in China and hope to be able to keep updating and using it now that I’m back.
I’m not planning to do anything with chen.nl other than to keep the domain name and hosting purely for e-mail. Everything else will be on guychen.nl. Anyway, that’s all there is to know about my website, for future plans read on below.
The future isn’t written in stone and is always fluid. I’ll probably keep using this website to blog, nothing more than that for the moment. But only the future will tell what will happen with this website.
